HSHS Sacred Heart Hospital awarded Primary Stroke Center certification from The Joint Commission

HSHS Sacred Heart Hospital recently earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® for advanced certification as a primary stroke center. This renewed certification, which the hospital’s stroke program has held for the past 11 years, has been awarded for a two-year period.

HSHS Sacred Heart Hospital underwent a rigorous, unannounced on-site survey earlier this year. During the review, a team of Joint Commission surveyors evaluated current protocols and processes, adherence to standards as well as utilized technology and advanced treatment procedures. Surveyors also conducted on-site observations and interviews.

“At HSHS Sacred Heart Hospital’s Primary Stroke Center, we use the latest technology and advanced treatment of stroke with care and compassion,” said Jeannie Pittenger, stroke program coordinator, HSHS Sacred Heart Hospital. “We’re proud to help our patients and their family members through their journey.”

The Joint Commission accredits and certifies nearly 21,000 health care organizations and programs in the U.S. An independent, nonprofit organization, The Joint Commission is the nation’s oldest and largest standards-setting and accrediting body in health care. The Joint Commission’s hospital standards and home care standards are developed in consultation with health care and home care experts and providers, measurement experts, and patients. The standards are informed by scientific literature and expert consensus to help hospitals measure, assess and improve performance.
