HSHS Sacred Heart Hospital Sleep Disorders Center earns accreditation

HSHS Sacred Heart Hospital’s Sleep Disorders Center last week received program accreditation from the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM). The hospital’s Sleep Disorders Center is located at 3802 W. Oakwood Mall Drive.

To receive accreditation, a sleep center must meet or exceed all standards for professional health care as designated by the AASM. These standards areas such as personnel, facility and equipment, policies and procedures, data acquisition, patient care, and quality assurance.

“Our center is committed to enhancing the awareness of sleep as an important element for health, public safety and overall quality of life,” said Nancy Demars, director of cardiopulmonary services at HSHS Sacred Heart and St. Joseph’s hospitals. “I am proud of our colleagues and the service they have built.”

Sacred Heart Hospital’s Sleep Disorders Center’s sleep technologists work with a team of physicians who are board certified in sleep, pulmonary, critical care and internal medicine. The center identifies and treats more than 84 different sleep disorders, including common conditions such as obstructive sleep apnea, insomnia, restless legs syndrome, periodic limb movement disorder, narcolepsy and more.

“The American Academy of Sleep Medicine congratulates Sacred Heart Hospital’s Sleep Disorders Center on meeting the high standards required to earn accreditation as a sleep disorders center,” said Dr. Douglas Kirsch, AASM president.

The American Academy of Sleep Medicine is a professional medical society for clinicians, researchers, and other health care providers in the field of sleep medicine and is the national accrediting body for sleep disorders centers.
