HSHS Hospitals honor specialty certified nurses

Area HSHS nurses who have advanced certifications will be honored by HSHS Sacred Heart and St. Joseph’s hospitals with dinner and celebration on Monday, March 5.

This annual hospital event recognizes registered nurses, who hold specialized certifications, for their professionalism, leadership, and commitment to excellence in patient care.

One hundred and ten specialty certified nurses will be honored at this year’s event, with certifications in: case management; critical care; emergency; hospice and palliative care; medical and surgical; neurological; obstetrics; oncology; open heart surgery; OR; pediatrics; post-anesthesia care; progressive care; rehabilitation; sexual assault; and wound and ostomy.

Specialized certification of nurses plays an increasingly important role in the assurance of high standards of care for patients and their loved ones.

“Nursing, like health care in general has become increasingly complex,” said Judy Balcitis, MSN, RN, Chief Nursing Officer for Sacred Heart and St. Joseph’s hospitals. “While a registered nurse license provides entry to general nursing practice, the knowledge-intensive requirements of modern nursing calls for extensive education, as well as a strong personal commitment to excellence.”

Sacred Heart and St. Joseph’s hospitals encourage specialty certification for all of their nurses.
