HSHS Sacred Heart Foundation Golf and Tennis Classic event raises more than $58,000

HSHS Sacred Heart Foundation held its 27th annual Golf and Tennis Classic at the Eau Claire Country Club on July 31 with 154 golfers, 9 tennis players and dozens of volunteers. Proceeds from the event – $58,760 – will benefit the hospital’s cancer care services.

“It is truly amazing to see the outstanding support provided by the community for the mission and services offered here at Sacred Heart,” said Ann Kaiser, CFRE, development director, HSHS Sacred Heart Foundation. “Over its history more than $1 million has been raised at the Classic to benefit patient care at Sacred Heart. It is an honor to receive such extraordinary charitable support from the community.”

This year’s Classic marked the 10th year of an annual tradition – the “Thrill of Victory Award,” sponsored by the late Mark Phillips through the L. E. Phillips Family Foundation. Mark passed away earlier this year on May 29. Each year, the award is given to a hospital patient who has made an outstanding recovery in his or her health. This year’s recipient was Kee Shen Yim, a University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire student from Malaysia who suffered a stroke at 22.

“Therapy is a lifelong journey,” said Yim. “I am a completely different person now. I will have to do therapy every single day. I cannot stop for a day.”

The hospital’s cancer care services team was also honored with an award – the fourth-annual Heart of Excellence Award – for providing highly skilled care with respect and compassion.

Next year’s Golf and Tennis Classic will be held July 30, 2018.
