Hospitals host two-part Mental Health First Aid series

CHIPPEWA FALLS – HSHS Sacred Heart and St. Joseph’s hospitals’ 3D Community Health are hosting a free two-part Mental Health First Aid series for anyone who would like to recognize the common risk factors and warning signs of specific types of illnesses such as anxiety, depression, substance use disorder, bipolar disorder, eating disorders and schizophrenia. It’s a course that teaches participants how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illnesses and addictions in friends, family, neighbors and co-workers, and it’s open to anyone who wants to learn how to provide initial help.

The two-part series will take place October 19 and 26 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Korger-Chestnut (140 W Elm St.). The training is free and lunch will be provided. Registration is required by calling (715) 717-1600.

During the training, attendees will learn the risk factors and warning signs of mental health concerns, be given a five-step action plan to help someone developing a mental health concern or crisis, and be given available evidence-based professional, peer and self-help resources.
