Ways to Make a Big Difference

Providing Much Needed Help During This COVID-19 Crisis

Below are a few opportunities to share your support:

Donate Your Commute

Are you working from home? Consider donating what you are saving in gas! Just take .05 per mile times the number of miles you normally drive to and from work. Then times that by the number of days you anticipate working from home.

If your work is normally 5 miles away and you are working from home for 5 weeks, that’s $125, or 8 boxes of gloves, or 5 cases of surgical masks!

Encourage friends and family to do the same!

Virtual Walk/Run

Hold a virtual walk/run to raise money for the hospitals! Put on your Fitbit or other device and take a walk or run outside (keeping safe distance from others). Or, hop on your treadmill or elliptical. Find people to support you at a penny a step or every 10 steps.

Rally your friends and family to take part, either as a participant or a backer. If you got 10 people to support you and 10 people to walk with you—and they found 10 to suppor t them, and so on and so on, you could make a HUGE DIFFERENCE during this crisis!

Change your Out of Office Reply

Are you currently out of the office and have an auto reply running? Consider changing to raise awareness and support of our caregivers. Your out of office reply could be something like this: “Sacred Heart caregivers are at work for me. I’m working from home for them. I’ll reply to your email soon, or you can contact me by phone at xxx-xxxx. If you want to support the amazing professionals who have risked their health for you, follow this link: https://Giving.HSHS.org/SHEC/Donate.aspx.”

If you are running a third-party fundraising campaign, include that link instead!

CARES Act Charitable Giving Deduction

The new CARES (Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security) Act now allows all taxpayers to take a charitable deduction of up to $300, even if you do not itemize. For those who do itemize their deductions, the new law allows for cash contributions to qualified charities such as ours to be deducted up to 100% of your adjusted gross income for the 2020 calendar year.
