HSHS Sacred Heart Foundation held its 29th annual Golf and Tennis Classic at the Eau Claire Country Club on July 29 with 190 attendees, including golfers, tennis players and volunteers. Proceeds from the event – $58,000 – will benefit mobile mammography, which will provide better access to cancer detection in the communities the hospital serves.

“Over its history, more than $1.25 million has been raised at the Classic to benefit patient care at HSHS Sacred Heart Hospital,” Ann Kaiser, CFRE, development director, HSHS Sacred Heart Foundation. “It’s an honor to receive such extraordinary charitable support from our community.”

This year’s Classic marked the 12th year of an annual tradition – the Thrill of Victory Award. Each year, the award is given to a hospital patient who has made an outstanding recovery in his or her health. This year’s recipient was Kathy Shear, who was diagnosed with breast cancer one year ago and is currently undergoing her final chemotherapy appointments. View video HERE.

The radiology team at HSHS Sacred Heart and St. Joseph’s hospitals was also honored with an award – the sixth-annual Heart of Excellence Award – for providing highly skilled care with respect and compassion.

Next year’s Golf and Tennis Classic will be held July 27, 2020.

mobile_mammographySupport Our Cause

Funds raised at this year's event will support saving lives by providing early breast cancer detection through mobile mammography. Fewer than 26% of eligible women in our service area will get their recommended annual mammogram. Barriers include travel time, time away from work and scheduling conflicts.

Because of our mission and dedication to local communities, we have an obligation to provide better access to cancer detection through state-of-the-art mobile mammography.

Thanks to you, mobile mammography will visit communities in outlying areas to increase the number of women receiving life-saving early cancer detection.
