Laboratory

The Laboratory at Sacred Heart Hospital operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week to insure your tests are processed in a timely manner. We perform more than 500,000 tests each year, including comprehensive services in chemistry, coagulation, hematology, immunology, microbiology, pathology, transfusion services and urinalysis. And we are the first in the region to offer advanced on-site lab tests to detect the DNA in MRSA.

We are accredited by the College of American Pathologists (CAP), the American Association of Blood Banks (AABB) and The Joint Commission. We are certified by Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) to perform high complexity testing. (link to CAP, AABB and Joint Commission sites)

In addition to serving the need of our patients at Sacred Heart Hospital, our lab serves several other hospitals, clinics, residential nursing facilities, assisted-living facilities and veterinary clinics in central and northern Wisconsin.

Clinical Laboratory Science Program

Our Clinical Laboratory Science Program is a nine-month clinical practicum completed at Sacred Heart Hospital through an affiliated university baccalaureate degree program in Medical Technology or Clinical Laboratory Science. The practicum provides professional education by laboratory professionals and physicians, including didactic and clinical laboratory experiences. The program seeks to instill students with professional attitudes, leadership skills, technical expertise and a dedication to the field of Clinical Laboratory Science. Sacred Heart Hospital’s Clinical Laboratory Science Program accepts four students annually for the clinical practicum that begins the first week in September and continues through the end of May.
