Inspirations, Tuesday, November 20
by Emmy B.My mom’s birthday is tomorrow. I’m taking the day off so we can partake in the usual birthday activities such as eating, shopping and opening gifts! I asked her the other day if she feels her age. She laughingly said, “Sometimes in the morning when I get out of bed I feel older than I actually am!” But then she admitted it sometimes boggles her mind when she thinks about her age. She feels like she should be approaching 40 rather than 80. I can relate. I’m approaching 50, but I usually still think of myself as that 25 year old kid who’s got her whole life ahead of her. I look in the mirror and see gray hair peeking through and crows feet making tracks around my eyes. Seriously, what happened to that 25 year old?
I read a quote once that said the days are long but the years are short. I think that gets truer every year. While intellectually I know it’s important to try to live every day to the fullest, practically speaking, one day just kind of floats into another. Before you know it a week, then a month, and then another year has gone by.
Note to self: Learn to be more conscious of each day, remembering that time is fleeting.
