Community Benefit

In 1889, the Hospital Sisters came to the Chippewa Valley with a commitment to provide Christ’s healing ministry to all people. Sacred Heart Hospital continues that commitment through its community benefit services, which include unpaid care to beneficiaries of public programs such as Medicare and Medicaid, Community Care to those unable to pay, community education and services, and professional education for our clinical staff.

Each year Sacred Heart Hospital provides millions of dollars in support of our commitment to the community. As a result of our commitment of resources, thousands of individuals benefited from the many community services offered by Sacred Heart.

Community Benefits are services provided by the Western Wisconsin Division following our Franciscan mission to serve the sick and the poor and improve the health and wellness of our communities. In an uncertain economy with growing unemployment, St. Joseph’s Hospital and Sacred Heart Hospital colleagues can be proud that their hospitals have significantly increased their total Community Benefit each year. In the most recent fiscal year, the Community Benefit totaled $49.8 million. Regional collaboration allows us to deliver  benefits to our communities with greater geographical impact and also to provide quality Charity Care with greater efficiency.
