Cardiac Rehabilitation Program
The knowledgeable, compassionate cardiac rehabilitation team at Sacred Heart Hospital is here to provide you the tools you need to get back to your life following a cardiac event. Our goal is to help you achieve a healthy lifestyle that will keep you active and healthy for years to come. Our program contains Phase 1 (inpatient), Phase 2 (outpatient) and Phase 3 (Maintenance) components: Phase 1 Our goal in this phase is to ensure that you are able to tolerate activity—without experiencing cardiac symptoms—before being discharged from the hospital. This phase also contains education about physical activity and cardiac risk factors such as high cholesterol, elevated blood pressure, diabetes, stress, smoking and weight. Phase 2 This program is a continuation of our inpatient program and takes place in our Outpatient Cardiac Rehabilitation facility on the first floor of the hospital. The program is individualized and based on your physician’s orders. You are supervised as you participate in a monitored, hour-long exercise session three times a week. Each session includes an aerobic component, as well as resistance training, if appropriate. Weekly education classes are also offered, to help you learn how to stay healthy. The cardiac rehabilitation program team at Sacred Heart Hospital is comprised of exercise specialists and registered nurses who have Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification. Our medical director, department director, physicians, a cardiac nurse educator and dietitians round out the team. Our program is nationally certified by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR). All protocols are derived from American College of Sports Medicine and AACVPR guidelines. You can contact the Cardiac Rehabilitation Program at 715.717.4377.
