Birthing Options

The birth of your baby is a joyful, deeply personal event. At Sacred Heart Hospital we respect your choices when it comes to what type of birthing experience you want. We let you take the lead. And offer you the following birthing options:

Medication-Free: Some laboring mothers want to experience the birth of their baby medication–free. We support any choice you make and have nurses available to coach you on breathing and relaxing.

IV Medication and Epidural: For those needing greater relief, intravenous medications and epidurals are available. Of course, it’s always okay to change your mind, as we pledge to remain flexible if that happens.

Water Birth: We now offer the option of having a water birth. Water births can reduce the stress during labor and delivery. Some women choose to labor in the water and get out for delivery. Other women decide to stay in the water for the delivery as well. You must make arrangements in advance and meet the criteria in order to take advantage of this option.  If you are considering a water birth, please talk with your doctor or midwife to see if your situation qualifies you for this option.
