Q. What do children
learn from play?
A. Children
benefit most from a balance of planned and adult led activities and spontaneous
play. Children develop:
- Language skills
when they play name games, sing songs and rhymes.
- Thinking
skills when they follow directions, put together puzzles and build block
towers.
- Small-muscle
skills when they string beads, cut with scissors and use clay.
- Large-muscle
skills when they dance, play hopscotch, hike, ride their bike or tricycle
and play on the playground.
- Social
skills when they play board and card games, make up plays and assign parts
and participate in a ball game.
