Q. What’s the difference between a yearly physical and a sports physical?

A. Sports physical include everything you’ll find in a yearly physical, as well as:

  • an in-depth look at the sport your child is playing
  • how your child is training
  • whether that training is excessive or not enough
  • whether your child has had past injuries, like broken bones or head injuries, that could affect his or her ability to play

Q. Why are yearly physicals important?

A. Physicals allow us to assess developmental milestones, as well as growth. Each child grows and develops at his or her own unique rate. A physical helps us determine how your child is doing and identify any problems that may be occurring at their earliest stages.

Q. What’s included in a yearly physical?

A. A yearly physical allows us to:

  • review your child’s recent health and any medications he or she is on
  • look over the family’s past medical history
  • talk about the importance of a healthy diet
  • make sure your child knows the value of eating fruits and vegetables every day, as well as taking a multivitamin
  • discuss proper dental hygiene, including brushing your teeth after meals and visiting the dentist
  • look at any issues or concerns you may have
