symptoms of the flu?
A. Symptoms of
the flu usually come on very quickly and are typically more severe than cold
symptoms. Flu symptoms include: sore throat, fever, headache, chills, muscle
aches and soreness, congestion and dry, unproductive cough.
Q. How do flu and
cold symptoms differ?
A. Cold symptoms
usually come on gradually and can be accompanied by a hacking, productive
cough, sneezing, stuffy nose, sore throat and mild tiredness.
Q. How long does the
flu usually last?
A. Most flu
symptoms gradually improve over two to five days. However, people with the flu
often feel run down for a week or more after their symptoms disappear.
Q. When should I take
my child in to see the doctor?
A. Pneumonia can
be a complication of the flu—particularly in young children. If you notice
shortness of breath and a fever that comes back after having been gone for a
day or two you should see a pediatrician.
