Q. Should I give my
child vitamin supplements? A. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, a diet
based on the United States Department of Agriculture Food Guide Pyramid
provides adequate amounts of all the vitamins your child needs.
Q. Are there some
situations when vitamins are needed? A. Yes. If your child is a very picky eater or has a poor
diet he or she may need vitamin supplements. Children who are vegetarians may
also need vitamins to meet their nutritional needs. Babies who are breastfed or
don’t drink at least one liter of baby formula should receive 400 IU of vitamin
D. Older children who don’t drink at least 32 ounces of vitamin D fortified
milk also need vitamin D supplements. If you have any further questions about this topic, or would
