Physical Therapy
Physical therapists work with patients to address injury prevention, disability and functional impairment associated with environmental risks and pathologies. Treatment is delivered using the most technologically advanced physical agents and techniques. Treatment goals include relieving pain and discomfort, restoring movement, promoting physical independence and addressing activity tolerance problems. Therapy can occur in a physical therapy clinic area or at the patient’s bedside.
Physical therapists conduct an extensive patient assessment process, which enables them to evaluate a patient’s improvement in areas specific to the patient’s treatment goals.
Physical therapy assessments can include an evaluation of the following:
- Balance
- Coordination
- Lower extremity strength and range of motion
- Ambulation
- Stair climbing
- Safety awareness
- Skin integrity
- Pain
