Birthing Options

The choice is yours at Sacred Heart Hospital. You can select the type of birthing experience you want, and you will take the lead in your pain control, opting to use as much or as little intervention as you wish.

You may opt for:

Medication-Free: Some laboring mothers want to experience the birth of their babies medication-free. We support any choice you make and, should you select this option, we have nurses available to coach you on breathing and relaxing.

IV Medication and Epidural: For those needing greater relief, intravenous medications and epidurals are available. Of course, it’s always okay to change your mind, and we pledge to remain flexible if that happens.

Water Birth: Additionally, we now offer you the option of having a water birth. We have a permanent water birth tub, which you are welcome to use provided you meet the criteria and make arrangements in advance. Talk to your doctor or midwife to see if your situation qualifies you to use the tub for your delivery.
