Touch of Love Maternity makes your time as special and comfortable as possible. You can expect personal, family-centered care throughout your experience because we put new mothers, babies and families first. Although we average 100 deliveries a month, we pride ourselves on making each one uniquely personal. Along with your doctor or midwife, we will help you through your labor – following your birth plan and respecting your preferences for pain management – and share in your joy upon Baby’s arrival. Our “Growing Family Web Nursery” allows family members and loved ones to view and order copies of your baby’s first photo online.

Our “Touch of Love” nursery is a Level II Nursery, as defined in the guidelines for perinatal care through the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the American Academy of Pediatrics. Our nursery is designed to meet the needs of premature infants and infants with other special care needs.

High Touch
Most mothers choose us for the best in TLC (Tender Loving Care) for their labor and delivery and baby. For more than two years, Sacred Heart Hospital has ranked in the top 1% in the nation for inpatient satisfaction against thousands of other hospitals throughout the country (according to Press Ganey, the country’s largest hospital database of patient satisfaction survey data). In fact, in 2006, Sacred Heart Hospital received Press Ganey’s highest award. More than 1,000 hospitals were surveyed for inpatient satisfaction and only 14 (including Sacred Heart Hospital) were given the Summit Award. Not only that, we ranked at the top of this elite group (placing us in an exclusive class with only five other hospitals in the nation). Some moms even travel from other states to deliver their babies at Sacred Heart Hospital!

Excellent Outcomes 
Although every pregnancy and patient is unique, our total C-section (Cesarean) Rate is consistently below national norms. This is a measure that reflects our Medical Staff and Midwives’ careful management of labor and risk factor considerations.

Privacy & Comfort
Upon admission to the maternity department, your medical team will monitor you and your baby closely. Feel free to walk the halls; listen to music; use an exercise ball; sit in a whirlpool tub; or engage in whatever activities calm, relax and comfort you during your labor. Our advanced wireless technology allows you to be up and about while on a monitor. Throughout your labor and delivery you will be in one of our six spacious and private labor-delivery-recovery rooms. Each room is equipped with a birthing bed which converts into a delivery bed. If a Cesarean birth becomes necessary, we will move you just a few doors down the hall to a specially equipped room.

Cherishing the Moments
Our goal is to bring you the best family-centered care possible. We emphasize keeping mothers and their babies together, starting with the moment their newborn is born. All our assessments are conducted right in your delivery room so you can maximize this special time together. Everything we need to do will be performed right in front of you. (If special intensive care is needed, we may move your baby to our Level II nursery.)

Comfort, Quiet & Rest
You will transfer to a private postpartum room for the remainder of your hospitalization. Your baby may room with you or in the nursery, as you wish. Additionally, our maternity department features “mother-baby care,” meaning the same nurse will provide care for both of you.

Expert Help & Resources
Before your discharge, we will prepare you with supplies and resources to care for your new baby. Our nurses are all cross-trained in the specialties of labor and delivery, mother-baby care, Level II nursing practices and C-section recovery room operations. Because of this, they are fully equipped to answer your questions. Lactation consultants are also on hand to help with any nursing questions or other concerns you might have.

A Celebration
To help you celebrate, the Touch of Love Maternity department has gifts for everyone involved: a celebration meal for the new parents, a first birthday party (complete with cake) for siblings and a fleece blanket and digital thermometer for Baby. We put a “touch of love” into all we do for you and your growing family - we want to give your baby the best possible start in life.

Clinical Expertise and Holistic Care
Our hospital staff cares for you - body, mind and spirit. To heighten expertise in all areas of obstetrics and neonatal care, every maternity registered nurse is cross-trained for labor/delivery, mom/baby care, Level II Special Care Nursery, Cesarean-Section recovery and has advanced training to stabilize a critical infant. Pastoral care chaplains are available 24/7 from the hospital’s Center for Spiritual Care. To celebrate each new life, Brahms’ “Lullaby” is played over the hospital’s loudspeaker system, a tradition that dates back many years.
