MRSA Resouces Available on the Web

Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus (MRSA) is a very real issue in the United States today. MRSA is a much more common infection throughout the U.S. than previously thought, which has brought the disease to national attention.

Factors associated with the spread of community-acquired MRSA skin infections include crowded conditions, skin-to-skin contact, compromised skin and contact with contaminated items.

Consistent handwashing with soap and water continues to be the best way to prevent the spread of MRSA to yourself and others.

Community-acquired MRSA is an issue of public health concern and is something that Sacred Heart Hospital takes very seriously. One can be a carrier of MRSA, but not show any signs. Our hospital tests patients who are at an increased risk for MRSA upon hospital admission. All patients with infections suspected to be MRSA are tested.

Several MRSA resources are available on the Internet. Below are links to trusted sources, including the Wisconsin Department of Health and Family Services and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
