H1N1 UPDATE
November 13, 2009
The Latest:
H1N1 cases have evidenced a modest decrease in cases over the past week, coinciding with the warmer weather. If this trend continues, and the peak incidence has been experienced, the flu season will likely continue into the seasonal flu pattern for several more months.
Wisconsin has continued to see increases in the southern regions, and the season is certainly not over. Nationally H1N1-related pediatric deaths for the fall have exceeded the pediatric death rate for each of the last three years’ influenza seasons (CDC), with a total of 129 deaths attributed to H1N1. The state urges vaccination for the following risk groups:
-
Health care workers
-
Pregnant women
-
Caretakers or parents of children under age 6 months (protecting the child)
-
Children aged 6 months-4 years of age
-
Children aged 5-18 years who have chronic health care conditions
